Product Description

Indications:Indicated for improving glycemic control in adults and children with diabetes mellitus. It is a long-acting insulin analogue used for basal insulin therapy. Not recommended for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.Pharmacology:Insulin Detemir is a long-acting insulin analogue that regulates glucose metabolism by promoting glucose uptake into muscle and fat cells while reducing glucose production by the liver. It also inhibits fat breakdown and supports protein synthesis.Dosage:In insulin-naïve adults with type 2 diabetes, the usual starting dose is 0.1–0.2 units/kg once daily or 10 units once or twice daily. Dosage should be adjusted according to blood glucose response. Patients switching from another basal insulin may generally use a unit-to-unit conversion with further titration as needed.Interaction:Blood glucose levels may be affected by several medications. Corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics, thyroid hormones, and some calcium channel blockers may increase glucose levels, while aspirin, MAO inhibitors, testosterone, and certain antibiotics may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Beta-blockers may mask symptoms of low blood sugar.Contraindications:Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Insulin Detemir or any of its components.Side Effects:Common side effects include hypoglycemia, injection site reactions, weight gain, edema, rash, itching, nausea, blurred vision, palpitations, weakness, and lipodystrophy.Pregnancy & Lactation:Pregnancy Category B. It may be used during pregnancy when clinically indicated. Caution is advised during breastfeeding, and dose adjustments may be required in lactating women.Precautions & Warnings:Use cautiously in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. Regular monitoring of blood glucose and HbA1c is recommended. Rotate injection sites regularly to reduce local reactions.Use in Special Populations:Approved for children aged 6 years and older with type 1 diabetes. Elderly patients may require conservative dosing and close monitoring due to increased risk of hypoglycemia.Overdose Effects:Excess insulin may cause severe hypoglycemia. Mild cases can be treated with oral glucose, while severe episodes may require glucagon injection or intravenous glucose and close medical supervision.Therapeutic Class:Long-Acting InsulinStorage Conditions:Store unopened pens in a refrigerator at 2°C–8°C. Do not freeze. If refrigeration is unavailable, unopened pens may be stored below 30°C and protected from heat and light. Once removed from refrigeration, discard after 42 days regardless of remaining insulin content.
