Indications:Indicated for the relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Treatment should be individualized using the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary.Pharmacology:Nabumetone is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. It is converted in the liver to its active metabolite, which inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and helps reduce pain and inflammation.Dosage & Administration:The usual starting dose is 1000 mg once daily, with or without food. Depending on response, the dose may be increased to 1500–2000 mg daily in single or divided doses. Lower starting doses are recommended in patients with renal impairment.Interaction:NSAIDs may reduce the antihypertensive effects of ACE inhibitors. Caution is advised when used concurrently.Contraindications:Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to nabumetone or other NSAIDs, those with aspirin-induced asthma or allergic reactions, and for perioperative pain management in CABG surgery.Side Effects:Common side effects include abdominal pain, dyspepsia, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, rash, itching, tinnitus, and edema.Pregnancy & Lactation:Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and avoid use during the third trimester. Not recommended during breastfeeding.Precautions & Warnings:Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, heart failure, liver disease, dehydration, or those taking diuretics. Long-term use may increase the risk of kidney complications and gastrointestinal adverse effects.Overdose Effects:Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, gastrointestinal bleeding, hypertension, renal impairment, or rarely coma.
