Pase is a highly potent benzodiazepine that contains clonazepam, primarily indicated for the management of seizure disorders—including absence, myoclonic, and akinetic seizures—and the treatment of panic disorder. It exerts its therapeutic effects by enhancing the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, specifically by increasing the frequency of chloride channel opening at the GABA-A receptor complex. This leads to a profound anticonvulsant, sedative, and anxiolytic effect. Characterized by a relatively long half-life of approximately 30 to 40 hours, it provides sustained symptomatic relief but also carries a risk of accumulation. Clinically, its use must be carefully monitored due to the potential for tolerance, physical dependence, and side effects such as somnolence, ataxia, and cognitive impairment.
