**Fenofex (Fexofenadine) —
- **Uses:** A non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve:
- Seasonal or year-round allergic rhinitis
- Sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose or throat
- Watery, red, or itchy eyes
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives and itching)
- **How it works:** Blocks histamine at H1 receptors, reducing allergy symptoms. It generally causes less drowsiness than older antihistamines.
- **Usual doses:** The dose depends on age, condition, and kidney function. Common adult doses are **60 mg twice daily, 120 mg once daily, or 180 mg once daily**. Children require age-specific formulations and doses. **Use only as directed by a doctor.**
- **Common side effects:**
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Drowsiness or fatigue
- Occasionally diarrhea or dry mouth
- **Rare but serious reactions:** Stop the medicine and seek urgent medical help for facial/lip/tongue swelling, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, widespread rash, or severe allergic reaction.
- **Important interactions:**
- Keep at least a **2-hour gap** between Fenofex and antacids containing aluminum or magnesium.
- Avoid taking it with **apple, orange, or grapefruit juice**, which may reduce absorption.
- Erythromycin and ketoconazole may increase fexofenadine levels; inform your doctor if you take them.
- **Precautions:**
- Use carefully in older adults and people with kidney disease; the starting dose may need adjustment.
- Tell your doctor if you have heart disease or a history of palpitations.
- Although it usually does not impair driving, check how it affects you before driving or operating machinery.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: use only if clearly recommended by a doctor; it is generally not recommended during breastfeeding.
- **Overdose:** May cause dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and dry mouth. Seek medical advice if an overdose occurs.
- **Storage:** Keep in a dry place away from heat and light, and out of children’s reach.
