Lamotrigine is a versatile anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing medication primarily used in the management of epilepsy and the maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder. Its primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of voltage-gated sodium channels, which stabilizes neuronal membranes and suppresses the excessive release of excitatory neurotransmitters, most notably glutamate.
