Indications:
Camlodin Plus is used in patients with essential hypertension, angina with hypertension, post-myocardial infarction patients and in refractory angina where nitrate therapy is ineffective.
Pharmacology:
This combination contains Amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) and Atenolol (a beta-blocker). Amlodipine relaxes blood vessels, reducing blood pressure and improving blood flow. Atenolol lowers heart rate and cardiac output, reducing blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand. Together, they provide effective control of hypertension and angina.
Dosage and Administration:
The usual dose is one tablet (Amlodipine 5 mg + Atenolol 25 mg) once daily. Dose may be increased if needed, as advised by the physician. Dosage should be individualized.
Drug Interactions:
Atenolol may interact with disopyramide (increasing cardiac effects), ampicillin (reducing levels) and antidiabetic drugs (affecting blood sugar control).
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity, severe bradycardia, heart block, cardiogenic shock, hypotension and severe heart failure.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include fatigue, headache, swelling (edema), nausea, drowsiness, anxiety and depression.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. Not recommended during breastfeeding.
Precautions and Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with asthma, kidney impairment or liver disease. Do not stop the medication suddenly; gradual withdrawal is recommended.
Overdose Effects:
Overdose may cause low blood pressure and heart failure. Management is supportive with gastric lavage or activated charcoal if needed.
