Product Description

Indications:

Wikijet is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is not indicated for type 1 diabetes and has not been studied in patients with a history of pancreatitis.

Pharmacology:

Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. It enhances insulin secretion and reduces glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner, helping to control blood sugar. Its long half-life allows once-weekly dosing.

Dosage and Administration:

Administer as a subcutaneous injection once weekly.

Starting dose: 2.5 mg once weekly (initial phase only).

After 4 weeks: increase to 5 mg once weekly.

Further increases can be made in 2.5 mg increments up to a maximum of 15 mg weekly based on response.

Inject into abdomen, thigh or upper arm, with rotation of injection sites. Can be taken with or without food.

Drug Interactions:

May increase risk of hypoglycemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas. It can delay absorption of oral drugs, including contraceptives—alternative contraception is advised during dose adjustments.

Contraindications:

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to tirzepatide, history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Side Effects:

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, dyspepsia and abdominal pain.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Use during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. Consider risks and benefits during breastfeeding.

Precautions and Warnings:

Monitor for pancreatitis, thyroid tumors and hypoglycemia. Use caution in patients with renal impairment or diabetic retinopathy. Discontinue if severe hypersensitivity occurs.

Overdose Effects:

No specific antidote. Manage symptomatically and monitor patient, considering the long half-life (~5 days).

Therapeutic Class:

GLP-1 and GIP Receptor Agonist

Storage Conditions:

Store in a refrigerator (2°C–8°C), do not freeze, protect from light, and keep out of reach of children.
