**Active Ingredient & Class**
* **Generic Name:** Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (0.4 mg)
* **Therapeutic Class:** Selective $\alpha_1$-adrenoceptor antagonist (used for BPH, urinary retention, and urinary incontinence).
**Indications**
* Treatment of functional symptoms associated with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
**Dosage & Administration**
* **Standard Dose:** 1 capsule (0.4 mg) once daily, taken after a meal at night.
* **Dose Escalation:** May be increased to 0.8 mg (2 capsules) once daily after 2 to 4 weeks if necessary.
* **Interrupted Treatment:** Restart at 0.4 mg once daily if therapy is stopped for several days.
* **Administration:** Swallow capsule whole with water (~150 ml) while sitting or standing. **Do not crush or chew.**
**Contraindications & Warnings**
* **Contraindications:** Hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin, history of orthostatic hypotension, and severe hepatic insufficiency.
* **Precautions:** Can cause orthostatic hypotension or dizziness. Patients experiencing dizziness/weakness should sit or lie down immediately and avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing hazardous tasks.
* **Pre-treatment Screening:** Digital rectal examination (DRE) and Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) testing should be done before and during treatment to rule out prostate cancer.
**Common Side Effects**
* Dizziness and abnormal ejaculation.
* *Less frequent:* Headache, asthenia (weakness), postural hypotension, and palpitations.
**Key Drug Interactions**
* **Increased hypotensive effect:** Concurrent use of other $\alpha_1$-blockers.
* **Increased elimination rate:** Diclofenac and Warfarin.
* **No dosage adjustment needed:** Atenolol, enalapril, nifedipine, cimetidine, or furosemide.
**Pregnancy & Storage**
* **Pregnancy/Lactation:** Not recommended.
* **Storage:** Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Use strictly under a registered doctor's advice.
