Indications (Uses)
Allergic Conditions: Effective for hay fever, drug rashes, itching skin conditions (such as eczema, hives, and neurodermatitis), allergic conjunctivitis, and angioneurotic edema.
Respiratory Tract Conditions: Helps relieve symptoms involving increased nasal secretions, including acute and vasomotor rhinitis.
Motion Sickness & Vertigo: Used to prevent and treat travel sickness, as well as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by Meniere's disease and other inner ear disturbances.
Dosage & Administration
General Guidelines: Take with or shortly after food. Always start with the lowest effective dose and do not exceed 3 mg/kg per day.
Adults & Children Over 10 Years: Start with half a tablet up to three times daily, which may be increased to one tablet up to three times daily if needed.
Children 5 to 10 Years: Half a tablet up to three times daily.
Children Under 5 Years: Tablets are not recommended.
Motion Sickness: Take the initial dose at least 30 minutes before traveling.
Contraindications & Precautions
Contraindications: Avoid in patients with hypersensitivity to pheniramine, symptomatic prostate enlargement, active MAO-inhibitor therapy, and in newborn or premature infants.
Driving & Machinery: Causes drowsiness; avoid driving or operating machinery after taking a dose.
Interactions: Avoid taking alongside alcohol, other CNS depressants, or MAO inhibitors as they enhance adverse effects.
Pre-existing Conditions: Requires close monitoring in patients with conditions like prostate enlargement, narrow-angle glaucoma, asthma, or severe cardiovascular disease.
Pregnancy & Lactation: Classified as Category A; use only if strictly indicated.
Side Effects & Overdose
Common Effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, weakness, inability to concentrate, and blurred vision.
Gastrointestinal Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and constipation.
Other Effects: Urinary retention, palpitations, muscle weakness, and rare cases of blood disorders.
Overdose Risk: Can lead to severe CNS depression or excitation, disorientation, hallucinations, and convulsions (especially in young children).
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place protected from light, and keep strictly out of reach of children.
