Indications: Mave is indicated for the symptomatic relief of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), chronic irritable colon, spastic constipation, mucous colitis, colicky abdominal pain, and persistent non-specific diarrhea.
Description: Mave contains mebeverine hydrochloride, a musculotropic antispasmodic that directly relaxes the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract. It helps relieve intestinal spasms and restores normal bowel motility, making it effective in IBS and related disorders.
Dosage & Administration: For adults, elderly patients, and children over 10 years: mebeverine 135 mg tablet is taken one tablet three times daily, while 200 mg capsule is taken one capsule twice daily. It should preferably be taken 20 minutes before meals. Once symptoms improve, the dose may be gradually reduced. In case of a missed dose, it should be taken as soon as possible unless it is near the next scheduled dose; double dosing should be avoided. Mebeverine is not recommended for children under 10 years.
Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to mebeverine or any of the formulation components.
Side Effects: Generally well tolerated; however, rare adverse effects may include skin rash, urticaria, and angioedema.
Pregnancy & Lactation: Animal studies have not shown teratogenic effects, but caution should be exercised during pregnancy. Mebeverine is not significantly excreted in breast milk at therapeutic doses.
Precautions & Warnings: Use with caution in patients with porphyria or those prone to allergic reactions to similar medications.
Overdose Effects: Overdose may lead to central nervous system excitation. There is no specific antidote; management includes gastric lavage and supportive symptomatic treatment.
Therapeutic Class: Antispasmodic (musculotropic)
Storage Conditions: Store below 30°C, protected from light, and keep out of reach of children.
