Azmasol contains Salbutamol, which is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist primarily used for the rapid relief of bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by stimulating beta-2 receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, which activates the enzyme adenyl cyclase to increase intracellular cyclic AMP, leading to effective bronchodilation within minutes. While it is a cornerstone of "rescue" therapy via metered-dose inhalers or nebulization, its systemic effects can occasionally trigger side effects like tremors, tachycardia, or hypokalemia. Due to its relatively short duration of action—typically lasting three to five hours—it is managed as a symptomatic treatment rather than a long-term anti-inflammatory controller.
