Indications
This medicine is used to relieve dry (non-productive) cough, including whooping cough, and cough occurring before or after surgical procedures. It is also used for general cough suppression.
Adult Dose
Tablet: Adolescents over 12 years: 1–2 tablets daily; Adults: 2–3 tablets daily at intervals of 8–12 hours.
Syrup: Adults and adolescents: 15 ml, four times daily.
Child Dose
Tablet: Adolescents over 12 years: 1–2 tablets daily.
Syrup:
Children (6–12 years): 10 ml, three times daily
Children (3–6 years): 5 ml, three times daily
Pediatric Drops:
Infants (2 months–1 year): 10 drops, four times daily
Infants (1–3 years): 15 drops, four times daily
Contraindications
Should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug.
Mode of Action
Butamirate acts centrally on the brain to suppress the cough reflex, making it effective for dry cough.
Precautions
Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult a doctor before use.
Side Effects
Side effects are uncommon but may include skin rash, nausea, diarrhea, or dizziness.
Interactions
Using this medicine together with expectorants may cause mucus to build up in the respiratory tract, increasing the risk of bronchospasm and airway infections.
